It has become clear over recent years that the situation in which our members and associates work has become very difficult indeed. Local authority teams have shrunk, remits have altered (never reduced) and recruitment has almost dried up. Many people engaged in quality improvement, support and development have found themselves stretched almost to breaking point.
In this context, AEDIPS has also struggled to carry on because its very existence depends on the support of employing authorities to provide capacity by allowing - even encouraging - the release of key staff to carry out their AEDIPS duties. We do not doubt that this goodwill still exists, but we are aware that the capacity issue has reached critical proportions, to the extent that we have been unable over the last 18 months to organise and run our customary programme of conferences and issues seminars.
The survey has now ended and the AEDIPS Executive is considering the results, prior to calling an AGM to discuss the implications of the results and to make crucial decisions about the future of the organisation.
