With the prevailing constraints on local authority budgets and, taking full account of the fact that spending has been prioritised to ensure delivery of front-line services to pupils and families, it would be difficult to drive forward the customary residential conference on quality improvement when key staff are under considerable pressure, both in terms of time and of funding. In the light of these circumstances, the AEDIPS Executive Committee has made the decision to scale down this year’s event.
After much discussion, this year’s Annual Conference will be replaced by an Issues Seminar entitled “Partnerships for the Future”. The seminar will take place on Friday 26 February 2010 from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm in the Millennium Hotel, Glasgow and will include the AGM of the Association. The programme, which will focus on hearing the views of delegates, will feature discussion on how the Association will plan its future, including upcoming discussions with ADES about future partnership working and about participation of AEDIPS members and representatives in Curriculum and Assessment Review Groups (CARGs) with SQA.
This seminar is free of charge for members to attend and we are extending the invitation to all staff involved in quality improvement, whether a member of AEDIPS or not.
This event marks a key decision point for our organisation and it is therefore important that our discussions on the day take full account of the range of issues that are likely to affect us, now and in the future.
Later in the year, probably in late spring/early summer, we will be working in partnership with Learning and Teaching Scotland to organise a further focus conference with a particular emphasis on Curriculum for Excellence. Details of this event will be posted as soon as we have finalised the programme.
Your attendance (and that of your colleagues) at the seminar on 26 February is a significant opportunity for you to take an important role in shaping the future of AEDIPS.
